IN former songs Pride have I sung, and Love, and passionate, joyful
Life,
But here I twine the strands of Patriotism and Death.

They were hanging men in Buckland who would not cheer King George –
The parson from his pulpit and the blacksmith from his forge;

Healthy patriotism flourishes only by religious harmony, democracy and unity;
To be so, corruption in all ways has to be eliminated in democratic countries;
Political corruption brings dishonest politicians to power to rule nation in bad way;
For that, people have to be careful in selecting candidates in elections forever!

(Author's Talk about the Poem: The poem was written to celebrate the occasion of 60th Republic Day of India in 2010. Albeit, India got independence on 15th August,1947, it became republic country only after the constitution came into existence for the first time on 26th January,1950. In India all the people celebrate Republic Day with pomp and grandeur. However this poem pleads all Indians to think about problems, which Indian nation is confronting at the moment. It further asks all the Indians to be united to strengthen its democratic ideals.)

***Important information, ADDED August 7th 2017:
Readers of showcases, this August's showcase has been somewhat of a bother to me, for various reasons. I've had 'technical problems' maneuvering through the process of putting it together. Much of the trouble has to do with its length and my attempts to make it more user-friendly. PoemHunter does not always cooperate either. Now I am in the process of breaking the LONG showcase (over 40 poems, by over 40 poets) into FOUR PARTS: A, B, C, and D.
