They tell me
'Freedom is never free.'
I know that-
More than most realize.
Freedom cost us more
Than we should have to give.
Freedom cost us blood.
It cost us the lives
Of our fathers,
Our sons,
Our brothers.
But while freedom is never free,
Remember-
It has been bought at great price,
And so is a thing of great value.
We must defend it,
From those who would take it away.
The defense of our freedoms
Will cost us-
More than we wish to pay.
But we must pay, to defend,
For if we try to make freedom free,
We forget-
True freedom is never free.
What a wise poem to read to know about the truth of freedom we enjoy in the world!
I luv this poem, today when we sit so comfortably utilizing our countries amenities, its easy to forget how this freedom was gained in not too distant past...Father of our nation Mahatma Gandhiji is a leading light in our fight for freedom.. thanks for sharing
A beautiful poem, very touching and inspiring...Freedom is indeed a thing of great value and has to be defended at all costs.
A wonder rendition from the inner recesses of the heart. Well done.
Is this freedom? It doesn't seem like freedom is all that great, honestly. We aren't free to do whatever we want. We aren't even free to do whatever we want with our bodies. Not saying that's always a bad thing. We don't have other countries making rules for our government, so in that way I suppose we are free. In the U.S. we have massive corporations behind closed doors making the rules for us. So I fail to see what's so great about 'freedom'.
Let's say this poem glorified Xi Jinping, and you said 'It doesn't seem like [Xi Jinping] is all that great, honestly.' Now you're in a camp with a bunch of Uyghurs. Freedom isn't all it's cracked up to be, but it is still pretty darn great.

I would like to translate this poem
James. You have said it very plainly. May we never cease to understand freedom's value and freedom's cost. It is only free to those for whom its price has been paid for by others. Every generation must be on guard and armed to battle for the maintenance of freedom.
