We All Die, Butterfly Poem by Kelly Boutin

We All Die, Butterfly

Just hearing your voice
makes my heart flutter.

I want my heart to flutter again,
I want my heart to fly
I want my heart to take to the sky
and find its flock of butterflies.

What are you afraid of, butterfly?
Clinging to the rocky ground,
Why do you resist the wind?
Why do you let it take you down?

Oh butterfly, butterfly, with the velvet wings
butterfly wings break easily
butterfly hearts made of velvet
die clinging to their trees.

Join the flock of dying butterflies
try and make it East
we all die, butterfly
so let your heart be free
let your little heartbeat
learn the song of the butterflies
flutter up and then we'll die
we all die, butterfly.
