Lest we forget
Those who were blinded
So that we may see
Lest we forget
Those who were deafened
So that we may hear
Lest we forget
Those who were silenced
So that we may speak
Lest we forget
Those who lost their taste for killing
So that we may all taste living
Through art
We shed tears
For your blindness
Through music
We mourn
Your deafness
Through poetry
Tears falling
For your silence
Through our love
Heart-felt tears
For your dying
Heart-felt thanks
For this gift
Of seeing
Heart-felt thanks
For this gift
Of hearing
Heart-felt thanks
For this gift
Of speaking
And most of all
Heart-felt thanks
For this gift
Of living
Hi Mr. Wlodarski, I am doing a class project on your poem 'True Self.' However, for this poem, I need some sort of bio for the author. Is there any information I could include in this assignment about your personal inspirations and reasons for writing poetry? Thanks
Cried all the way thru! this must be one of the most human, kind and beautiful poems on love and gratitude ever written! Straight tp my heart where it will always be
Sandra, I was quite choked up as I was writing this poem...so, to receive this incredibly emotional positive response from an esteemed poetess has really made my day! It's this kind of wonderful constructive criticism that inspires and motivates me to write every day!
THX so very much, John! I love the beautiful work of your poetry!
Many many Thanks to Alonso Menendez for having added this poem to your favourites. And for your interest in my poetry. Looking forward to reading your poems, Alonso.
This poem has not been translated into any other language yet.
I would like to translate this poem
This is very powerful. It does get to the heart of the reader about the sacrifices that were made on our behalf. I felt guilt for not doing enough. There is also the powerful call imploring the reader to light a remembrance torch and keep it burning through poetry, song and dance. It calls for a carnival that honors those who went before us. I like it a lot.
Sarah, thank you so very much for your positive insightful comments. And let's keep that torch burning!
