What's that noise? I heard a creak, a rattle, or was it a squeak?
That rumble or mumble came out of silence, a sound most unique
In my ear a sound so queer, an echoing word, meek and oblique
It appears to speak, in a whispering shriek, .....FREAK
From pipes murmuring gripes, do you hear the water seep?
My mind urges me take a peak... is there a leak or do I hear dew drops weep?
A distant roar just like a snore, but what's that beep?
Maybe a bird, I swore I heard someone say the word....CREEP
Was that a tap or a rap, is someone at the door?
Could it be a knock or someone's talk, coming from under the floor?
The sound of feet, a murmuring beat, each moment closer more
Heard a snap, I'm sure it's a trap. Was that another word I'd better ignore?
A silent rustle, a mouse tussle, rumble of a distant train
Yet a word so clear can't you hear its murmuring refrain?
I know you hear it, this distant spirit, echoing in my brain
Each drip to the drain, again and again, clearly sings...INSANE?
