You Are Just Single Poem by Mazwi Sedibe

You Are Just Single

Days do get longer
Nights do get lonelier
The bed feels bigger
And the blanket is colder
You are just single

All advances to potential partner,
Are falling dominos of rejection
Many dates pass, and yet
You invariably come home alone
To be just as single

Love's a dream impossible to you
Always feels two cents shot of enough
Your love offerings are never enough
You are compelled to be tough,
And calmly embrace to just be single

You are not just single
You are a single bamboo tree seed
Planted and watered with patience
Look, tomorrow you will sprout
You will grow to be the single tall tree
An epitome of patience turned to better love
